March 2013
Hope
everyone is having a wonderful weekend! We had a fabulous time on Thursday with
our Walk Through the Revolution. It was
a terrific experience and your children did a wonderful job.
I look
forward to seeing all of you at Open House on Thursday, April 4th. Your
children have worked hard all year and are excited to show you all they have
done.
Upcoming events:
1. Language Arts: We just finished
reading Toliver’s Secret as well as Theme 3 RevolutionaryTimes in our
Literature Reader. We will complete this theme by Spring Break. We are working
on writing a short report on their favorite Revolutionary War Hero. They are to
create a puppet of their hero holding one items that represents their hero.
2. Social
Studies: We are starting Chapter
9 Life in Colonial Williamsburg. This will give them a feel for what life was
like for their Revolutionary hero. We will be reacting colonial life on
Colonial Day, Friday, May 10th.
3. Science In science, we are studying
the Periodic table and the different elements.
We have complete the unit on Mixtures and Solutions. Next week we will
begin the Living Systems unit. We will
be starting with the Heart and Circulatory System. We will be dissecting a lamb’s heart in early
June.
4. Outside
Reading for the 3rd Trimester is due May 31st.

Wonderful Science Fair Projects:
We
had a fantastic time at the Tech Museum in San Jose. We were able to take a class on Chemical Reactions
that we were learning about. It helped to bring our science lessons to life
with such great hands on activities.

Happy March! We are quite busy working hard! We have a few upcoming events that will
require costumes and memorizing of lines.

For Walk
Through, students will be able to share costumes with the other class, however
colonial day each student must have their own outfit.
Some
suggestions are:
Boys- knickers, white shirt or women’s blouse, white nylon knee-highs or tall socks, dark shoes, vest, tri-cornered hat
Girls- long skirt, long sleeve white blouse,dress, mob cap or bonnet, dark shoes, apron

may dress as boys as well ***
1. Language
Arts: We are working on our
storyboard for The Cay. We have also
started our latest book, Timothy of the
Cay. This is the prequel and sequel to the book, The Cay. It tells the story of how
Timothy got to the cay and what after Phillip was rescued.
2. Social Studies: We finished reading chapter 7 on Comparing
Colonies and will have a test on Wednesday. Look for a study guide Monday.
3. Science:
Element poster due Tuesday, Mar 5th We finished the next investigation on
chemical reactions, molecules, and compounds.
We will have a test on Tuesday, March 5th.
4. Outside
Reading for the 3rd Trimester is due May 31, 2013

C = 1600 pages
Requirements:
1. Read
a biography about a Revolutionary War hero.
2. Read at least two (2)
double paged books.
3. Read one short book
about Math.
